The ascendant sign — the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment and place of birth.
Lagna (also called Ascendant or Rising Sign) is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth, as seen from your birthplace. In Vedic astrology, the Lagna is the most important point in the birth chart. It determines the 1st house, the cusps of all 12 houses, and fundamentally shapes the interpretation of all planetary placements. Unlike the Sun sign (which changes roughly monthly), the Lagna changes every 2 hours, making it unique to your birth moment and location. Two people born on the same day in different cities or at different times will have different Lagnas and therefore different birth charts.
Lagna is the ascendant — the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. In Vedic astrology it is the most important point in the horoscope, determining the 1st house and the framework of all 12 houses. Your Lagna sign indicates your outer personality, physical appearance, and life's overall direction.
Rashi (or Janma Rashi) is your Moon sign — the zodiac sign the Moon was in at your birth. Lagna is your Rising Sign — the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at birth. Both are important in Vedic astrology. Rashi determines your emotional nature and mental characteristics; Lagna determines physical body, personality, and overall life framework.
